Seminar: “A Glimpse of the Israeli-Palestinian War”

Organized by Management Section (MS) of IET Hong Kong

About

The seminar titled “A Glimpse of the Israeli-Palestinian War” is designed for participants who are interested in understanding the historical, political, and cultural complexities of the Israel-Palestine conflict and how lessons from this protracted struggle can inform modern leadership and conflict resolution strategies. The Israel-Palestine conflict had persisted since the end of World War I. It is worthwhile to investigate and scrutinize the history, as well as every decision that contributed to the conflict and current battle.  We have invited three speakers from various backgrounds to share their thoughts on this topic, hoping to provide various perspectives for participants.

The seminar will begin by introducing the ancestors and developments of the Israeli and Palestinian peoples, who both had an ancient history since Before Common Era (B.C.). The origins of the territorial disputes, the role of colonial legacies, and the influence of global powers will be introduced alongside the key leaders from each side. By understanding the motivations, constraints, and decisions of both parties, participants will gain a nuanced view of the complexities behind the conflict. Following this introduction, the seminar will provide a chronological review of key milestones, including the Balfour Declaration, the establishment of the state of Israel, the 1948 Arab-Israeli War, the Six-Day War, the Oslo Accords, and the ongoing issues surrounding settlements, borders, and refugees. The overview of the conflict will be analyzed as a case study in decision-making and the consequences of policy choices.

The seminar encourages participants to share their thoughts on the topic through discussions in addition to hearing from leaders. The future development of the Israel-Palestine conflict will be forecasted and discussed. In addition to examining tactics used by both sides, from diplomacy to military action, the seminar will stress the value of empathy, cultural awareness, and flexible problem-solving when dealing with long-standing disputes.

“A Glimpse of the Israeli-Palestinian War” aims to equip participants with insights into conflict resolution, strategic thinking, and the importance of fostering dialogue and trust in divisive circumstances. Through the combination of expert analysis and interactive discussions, the seminar provides participants with actionable takeaways to enhance their leadership effectiveness, strategic foresight, and ability to approach complex challenges with a balanced perspective.
