About

More than a century ago a massive 80+ mile long tunnel was built under Skelsmergh & Scalthwaiterigg. The Victorian engineering marvel carries water all the way from Thirlmere to Manchester entirely by gravity.

Nobody knows more about this aqueduct than John Butcher who worked for United Utilities for more than 25 years & was their aqueducts manager. John will tell the remarkable story of the construction & operation of this aqueduct.
