Are IET events suitable for all career stages?
Yes. Whether you’re a student, early career engineer, established professional or senior leader, IET events and courses offer you learning, networking and development opportunities.

Do IET events count towards CPD?
Yes! Attending IET events and courses counts towards to your Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
You can log your hours using our Career Manager tool, and all of our training courses are aligned with the UK-SPEC competency.
What engineering courses does the IET offer?
The IET offers courses covering technical skills and workplace skills, as well as our WISE courses offering EDI training. Many of these can also be delivered in-house at your company premises.
Our technical courses include training for those working in energy and power, electrical and electrical safety, information communications, and the railway sector.
Our workplace courses cover topics such as leading teams and communicating with impact to managing change, resolving conflict, and running productive meetings.
Who delivers IET courses and events?
IET events and training are led by experienced engineers, industry specialists, academics and subject matter experts who bring deep knowledge and practical insight from across their time working in engineering and technology sectors.
What types of engineering events does the IET run?
We run engineering conferences that bring together expert speakers from industry and academia, for learning and networking opportunities, with many of them including a call for papers programme allowing researchers to showcase their latest ideas and innovations.
We also offer technical visits at many of the conferences to further enhance the learning opportunities.
We also have a range of volunteer-led webinars and in-person events across a range of engineering and technology disciplines, allowing our community to come together and learn from one another.
How can my organisation get involved in IET events and courses?
We offer group booking options for all of our conferences and courses, and many organisations attend IET events to help upskill their teams, gain visibility, connect with talent, stay informed on emerging trends.
Most of our courses can be offered as in-company training as well, where we bring the learning to you!
We also offer organisations the opportunity to enhance their reputation and showcase their expertise through sponsorship and exhibition, speaking opportunities, as well as recognition through award entries.
Do I need to be an IET member to attend?
Most IET events and courses are open to everyone, though members receive discounted rates, and it may be cheaper to become a member first so you can benefit from the discounted rates as well as IET membership.
Some of our WISE events are exclusive for WISE members, and some of our network events may also be exclusive, this will be noted on the event or course page where this applies.
How can I get involved in IET events as a speaker?
You can submit a paper through our Call for Papers process if you’d like to present research or technical work, or you can express your interest by sending an email to events@theiet.org if you’d like to deliver a talk, join a panel or contribute your specialist knowledge to an upcoming event – or to ask about being a part of our organising committee.
There are also opportunities to get involved with our community-led events by exploring and connecting with our local and technical networks.
Do you offer any scholarships or bursaries for me to attend an IET event?
Our IET Travel Awards are for members travelling as part of their professional development.
We offer up to £1,500 for international travel and £600 for members travelling nationally, with six rounds of applications per year.
