A talk from a fascinating speaker on using space-themed practical projects to motivate undergraduate study, teaching space electronics design, and the interesting and varied career of the speaker.

Prof Andy Stanford-Clark will introduce the mind-bending principles of quantum computing, give some history of the technology, and describe potential application areas for quantum computers. He will take us on tour inside a real quantum computer, and explain how you can get free hands-on experience of IBM's quantum computer, and start to learn how to program these exciting new machines.

The talk will outline the role and workings of the RAIB, the UK's independent accident investigator for railways and tramways.

Quantum physics describes the behaviour of small particles such as atoms or photons and their behaviour is very different from the macroscopic world with which we are familiar.

The presentation will include descriptions of the process engineering enhancements which have been implemented in order to ensure tighter discharge quality into the River Kent. Also the engineering challenges associated with the repair of the outfall to the River Kent, which was damaged during Storm Desmond, will be included.
